Our story
TV Dinner is a little café and grocery on West 3rd at Burrard, on the edge of Kitsilano and Fairview in the Armoury District. Great coffee, breakfast and lunch sandwiches made in house, and freezers full of meals from local makers, all under one roof.
The idea came to Jon Coleman in 2020, when restaurants and small food producers started making food for retail: "I dreamed of a frozen food aisle that you were excited to walk down rather than ashamed of." Growing up, "TV dinner" had a bit of a negative ring to it. Here it means enjoying good food with ease. We take a no-nonsense approach to coffee too: great products and friendly service that makes everyone feel welcome.
The shop opened in June 2024. When we needed seating we found booths from a Subway, our friend Elliot made the tabletops, and a stack of old TVs plays grainy reception and classic Canucks footage while the speakers go from cumbia rebajada to 90s New York hip hop. It's a space that doesn't take itself too seriously but takes pride in everything it does.
Our drip coffee comes from Bows Coffee Roasters, our matcha is single-origin Aikenka from Shizuoka, and our own Moses won the 2025 AeroPress Regional Championship. Breakfast sandos on brioche get pressed in the panini press and are served all day. Try them with Acid Rain, our in-house citrus and serrano hot sauce made with Diablo Sunrise.
The freezers, fridges and shelves are stocked with local favourites: Vij's, Dicky's Dumps, Market 49, La Taqueria, Hanoi 36, Jack's chowder, La Dulceria ice cream, Crack'in Bacon, Mamma Mia Chef, Clarity Kombucha, Juice Truck, Kirk's soda and plenty more, with focaccia loaves from Mimi's every Friday. Gift cards and e-cards are available in store.
We love a pop-up and a community day: The Bees Kneads cinnamon buns, Toni Bagels, Brat Fest, cuppings, film nights and the Coasters run club, which starts and ends at the shop on Sundays at 9am. Stay glued to the tube.
